Time
to Leave Classroom
There
will be times when a teacher feels it is important to have a student
leave the room. The teacher may be intervening in an argument, or
addressing a student’s unwillingness or inability to participate
in a learning activity. There are other conditions under which the
teacher has authority to instruct a student to leave the room, and
these will be discussed in a Spectrum activity and used to help
MVAS develop our code of courteous and professional conduct.
All
students have the right to appeal to an administrator, or an advisor,
and to have a conference with the teacher later. However, the student
does not have the right to refuse to leave the area. Students are
encouraged to pursue appropriate action through proper channels
after the fact. Do not challenge this rule or the teacher in a heated
moment. Leave the area immediately and seek out your advisor, an
administrator or a peer mediator. If you fail to leave when the
teacher asks you to leave, it will be considered a defiant act,
which will be dealt with further.
