Prerequisites:
Upper quartile in academic achievement. Reading score at or above
grade level. Teacher/counselor recommendation.
Through
Reader's/Writer's Workshop approach, students will explore a world
literature based curriculum which includes development of analytical
and interpretive skills in reading, listening, speaking, viewing,
and academic writing in multi-paragraph essays. Skills in the writing
process will be developed. The vocabulary of literature, including
point of view, poetry analysis, tone, syntax, and argumentation
will be introduced in preparation for Advanced Placement courses.
Vocabulary study and conventions of Standard English will be emphasized.
Independent reading is required. Qualitatively different materials,
instruction, and activities will be implemented. Career education
will be addressed.
