Prerequisites:
Upper quartile in academic achievement with "B" or better in Advanced
English 1, 2 GATE Cluster or equivalent course. Teacher/counselor
recommendation.
This
course has a world literature-based curriculum based on universal
themes and continues the development of analytical and interpretive
skills in reading, speaking, viewing, and academic writing in multi-paragraph
essays. Skills in the writing process will be developed. The vocabulary
of literature including point of view, poetry analysis, tone, syntax,
and argumentation will continue to be developed in preparation for
Advanced Placement courses. Contextual vocabulary study and conventions
of Standard English will be continued. Standardized test taking
skills for college entrance examinations and first draft timed writing
will be introduced and practiced. Qualitatively different materials,
instruction, and activities will be implemented. Career education
may be addressed. This course builds on the Advanced English 1,
2 GATE Cluster course.
