Prerequisites:
Successful completion of 8th grade Algebra 1 or equivalent with
a "B" or better. Reading at grade level or above.
This
year long course focuses on the chapters of the Active Physics curriculum.
It is a recognized a-g course accepted by both the UC and CSU systems.
The areas that will be covered in class include Communication, Predictions,
Home and Sports, with an emphasis on motion, forces, energy, properties
of matter, electricity, magnetism, sound and light. Students will
spend some time each day reflecting on the lessons and the content
of the activities and strive to make improvements to the learning
in the classroom. This inquiry-based physics class has been designed
to help students discover the physical world around them while focusing
on collaborative groups, research, laboratory work, and investigation.
Students should be prepared to work hard, get involved, act responsibly,
and have an awesome hands-on science experience. Supplemental materials
will be provided to all Honors students to prepare them for taking
the Golden State Exam.
