The 20/20 Vision Campaign

By: Michael Ngo

May 22 , 2008

The 20/20 Vision Campaign was designed specifically to encourage students to improve their test scores by at least 20 points each and every year, until senior year. With this campaign, the school is hoping for higher test scores for every student. Students are rewarded an exclusive field trip if they meet the campaign's standards, scoring 20 points or more. Students who scored advanced and/or proficient will also be allowed to go on the field trip. This year, over one hundred students met the campaign's standards.

To help promote the 20/20 Vision Campaign, the school gave away prizes, to selected students, who attended all of the four days of testing. Prizes included two iPod Shuffles, lunches, t-shirts, hats, flash drives, gift cards and much more. James Eung, Jessy Eung, and Hassen Smith all won prizes in the drawing. One of the two lucky MVAS students, who won an iPod Shuffle, was Carla Mencia. To further fuel the fire, every student was given a free 20/20 Vision t-shirt, pin, and pencil to remind students of testing days. On the first day of testing, students were encouraged to wear their red t-shirts and pins to show support for each other.

Does the 20/20 Vision Campaign really work? Over 30 students had higher scores than last year and an additional 10 students scored two or more advanced and/or proficient on their test. That is MVAS alone. Hopefully, next year, the 20/20 Vision Campaign will further improve the scores of, not only MVAS students, but the students of Crawford Educational Complex in general; freshmen, sophomores, and juniors.
