Friday,
February 29, 2008 the junior class of 2009 hosted “Ice
Skating Night.” The evening began in the Crawford Complex
cafeteria, where chow-mein, orange chicken, broccoli beef, fried
rice, and egg rolls were served. The drink of the evening was
a deliciously sweetened punch. Disk Jockey Howard Brown kept
the venue lively and later brave students played “musical
chairs.” The first round was played amongst the students,
as was the second, but the third round was played among the teachers.
For the journey to the rink, the buses arrived just before
7:00 PM and the students and staff began boarding. It was
a cheerful ride to the San Diego Ice Arena.
Most students went to the ice skating rink as soon as they put on their skates.
Others were reluctant to go out on the ice for the fear of falling. Teachers
and students grabbed on to friends and the edge of the walls hoping to stay
on their feet.
Even though staff and students fell, they got back on their feet and tried
to skate again. “This is fun, I have been ice skating before but never with
my friends like this,” said Leonel Roman. There was a friendly game of
Turkey Bowl played by Principal Diego Gutierrez of MVAS, Junior Class Advisor,
Mr. Jonathon Robell and two other guests, one of which was celebrating her
birthday at the ice skating rink that night.
After the rink was resurfaced it was back to skating for another 45 minutes. Everyone
arrived back at the school by 10:30. Teachers stayed until all the students
were picked up. All in all it was a pretty fun night. Lina Bien is
the junior
class president. She said, “We didn’t make a lot of money, but
everybody had fun.”
