Death Race

Death Race is about a retired race car driver who is wrongly convicted of murdering his wife. He is sent to a maximum security prison to replace a famed driver who was killed in the last race, without anyone knowing besides the warden. The movie is faced paced, an edge of your seat plot, and full of twists.

The entire movie is action packed, with cars armed with everything from oil spills, mini-guns, and RPG-7 rocket launchers. The drivers all fight to the death in a violent race to first place, full of shortcuts and offense and defense  activation pads the unlock the weapons on the drivers cars. The cars driven include a Ford Mustang, a Cadillac Escalade, and a Chrysler 300. These cars are lined with .50 caliber heavy machine guns and million round a minute chain-guns. Off the track the drivers continue to fight on the prison grounds, especially when the main character finds that one of the drivers is the one who really killed his wife.

The plot starts with the main character getting home, saying “hi” to his wife, and her in the kitchen cooking. A man breaks in, knocks him out, and when he awakes he has a knife in his hand covered in blood and his wife dead on the ground. The man that committed the crime is long gone, and the only lead the main character has is his memory of the man’s wrist, which had a device on it that is unique to the prison and a symbol of a gun the man puts up as he walks out before the main character blacks out. When he gets to the prison, he is offered a deal to race, were if he wins he will gain his freedom back. He agrees, and during the race he sees the one of the drivers throw up the same symbol as the man at his house, and eventually learns that the warden hired this man to kill his wife to get the main character framed so he could partake in the race. The movie continues to show his races and victories and how he gains his freedom.

There are many twists in the movie as well; they are unexpected and full of action. One twist was when one of the cars gets destroyed, and the driver manages to escape with his life, so he climbs out talking about how invincible he is and how he can’t be killed, only to be run over by another racer out of nowhere. Another twist was when the wardens basic war machine, a tanker complete with rockets, spikes, flame throwers and the gun of a tank is destroyed by the main character and his rival after they team up, and lead it into its own trap.

I give this movie high ratings, because it keeps you entertained and on the edge of your seat the entire time. It’s very entertaining and the ending is good, with him eventually gaining freedom, new friendship, and a new girl. This movie is god for someone who enjoys a lot of nonstop action and explosions. I’d rate it 4.5 out of 5
