Speak

By: Stephanie Jensen

February 8th 2008

The movie, Speak, is a story that very well could have taken place in present time. Its main character has a common problem that many teenagers and adults have today. Melinda Sordino (Kristen Stewart) is raped by a senior at her high school, Andy Evans (Eric Lively) and becomes depressed and mute. She results suicide as a cry for help. The conflict mounts when Melinda does not tell her mother (Elizabeth Perkins) or her father (D.B, Sweeny) about the terrible event.

Along the way her art teacher, Mr. Freeman (Steve Zahn), helps her find a way to express her feelings through art and objects. She later finds the courage to speak.

This dramatic movie has a mind-twisting ending and I would definitely recommend this movie to my classmates. On a scale of 1-10, I would rate this movie a seven.
